ERSA has been engaged by the Local Government Association of Qld (LGAQ) to undertake Natural Hazard Risk Assessments (NHRAs) of four (4) local authority areas in SE Queensland. The project includes risk assessments for the Gold Coast City Council, Logan City Council, the Lockyer Valley Regional Council and the Scenic Rim Regional Council.
The natural hazard risk assessments will be based on the Australian and New Zealand Risk Management Standard AS/NZS ISO 31000:2009 Risk Management.
ERSA’s Principal Risk Scientist and Chairman, Ken Granger, will lead the study team. Undertaking these risk assessments will build on a wealth of knowledge that Ken and members of the ERSA team have previously developed when undertaking natural disaster risk assessments, bushfire risk management studies and landslide risk management studies for SE Qld councils under the auspices of Landmarc Pty Ltd and the Institute for International Development.
ERSA applies a risk assessment methodology developed by Ken Granger that assesses risk from the basis of the nature of the hazard, the exposure to hazard impacts and the vulnerability of the community. This methodology employs sophisticated spatial analysis and provides disaster managers with a detailed understanding of their communities and a wide range of risk mitigation strategies that can be applied to improve community safety.
